Hlumani
Our Hlumani corporate social responsibility model is one of the pillars supporting Bosasa’s mission to contribute towards the well-being of South Africa’s rehabilitated offenders. Through successful partnerships between government, local communities and the private sector, Hlumani effectively designs and implements reintegration solutions that deliver on the Correctional Services White Paper.
Because of the difficulties usually experienced in re-integrating offenders back into society once they’ve been rehabilitated, Hlumani serves to ease the way for community acceptance. This in turn, provides strong evidence of restorative justice.
The uniqueness of the model acknowledges and develops latent talent in a group of rehabilitating offenders who are conventionally rejected and stigmatized by society on leaving prison. Once gainfully employed due to their sustainable skills, these ex-offenders begin to assist and benefit nuclear and extended families. This promotes a changed view of the ex-offender, as they can now be seen as an instrument of positive change to a local micro economy. Skills, raised self esteem and a sense of self sufficiency coupled with healthy nutrition are the by-products Hlumani facilitates.
In addition, Bosasa has successfully implemented the following projects to its CSI portfolio:
- Waterval Vegetable Processing Plant
- Ekuseni - Computer (30) Training Facility
- Crèche for mothers with babies in a correctional centre (Johannesburg Females)
- Feeding impoverished schools in Pollsmoor and Atteridgeville Area
