Emmanuel AIDS Haven
In 2004, Dr Mamisa Chabula started Emmanuel AIDS Haven in the Motherwell Township situated just outside of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. This is a sanctuary to many who live below the poverty line in the township, as it offers quality medical care right on their doorstep.
Many of the people living in this township don't have the means to travel into Port Elizabeth to access the city's health facilities. This sparked Dr Chabula's vision to create a place for these disenfranchised people. Unfortunately, one person can only do so much and this is where Bosasa stepped in to help.
We have a company policy to never undertake a business venture without contributing positively to the local communities in areas where we are economically active. As we have ventures in Port Elizabeth, we decided to provide Emmanuel AIDS Haven with considerable donations and plenty of support for the running of the facility.
As a result, there is now a crèche for orphaned children who are HIV positive, a day centre and an eye clinic. The caregivers are also now able to test for HIV and provide anti-retrovirals to the community.
